Week One: Setting the Foundations for My 90-Day Mental Health and Weight Loss ExperimentWhat if focusing on mental health could lead to weight loss--not as the goal, but as a side effect?
That is the question I am exploring in my new 90-day experiment. As a mum who's juggled the highs and lows of post partum life, emotional eating, and self care struggles, I'm diving into this journey with curiosity and an open heart.
This weeks episode is all about setting the foundations. Before we get into the nitty gritty, let me explain my intentions. I'm not about chasing fad diets or obsessing over the scale. Instead, I'm focusing on mental health & seeing if creating better coping strategies can reduce my wants to reach for comfort food? Will taking care of my mind and body naturally lead to fitting back into my bre-baby dress? Only time will tell, but here's how I'm starting:
Walk Daily
Movement is medicine, and for me, walking is the easiest way to stay consistent. It’s not just about physical activity; it’s about clearing my mind, getting fresh air, and taking time to reflect. Even if it’s just a 20-minute stroll with the kids or the dog, I’m committed to showing up every day.
Meditate Daily
Meditation is my anchor. With two kids and a busy life, finding even five minutes of quiet can be challenging, but it’s essential for managing stress and improving emotional resilience. I’m starting small, using guided meditations to ease into the habit.
Add One Nutritious Item to Every Meal
No restrictions, no food rules—just a commitment to nourishment. Whether it’s adding spinach to my eggs, a handful of berries to my snack, or extra veggies to dinner, this simple step helps me focus on abundance rather than deprivation.
For years, I've watched women (myself included) turn to food as a way to cope with stress, exhaustion, and emotions. Emotional eating can feel like a never ending cycle of guilt & shame, but I believe there's another way. By prioritizing mental health and cultivating positive habits, I hope to show that weight loss can happen - not through restriction, but through self care.
This journey isnt about perfection. Its about progress and discovering whats possible when we shift the focus from punishment to nourishment, from shame to compassion.
Each week, I'll share updates on my progress, challenges, and lessons learned. This isnt just about the physical changes- its about how these foundational habits are impacting my mental and emotional wellbeing. I'll also be sharing behind the scenes moments on Instagram, where you can see the real, unfiltered journey unfold.
Please share this link with the women in your life, we could all do with some validation that emotional eating is normal, burnout is normal & there is access to support & its OK to reach out for help. Next week I'll be getting professional help to support my nervous system.
