I am here for you if you would like to make peace with your body, heal your relationship with food, unpack emotional eating and heal your relationship with yourself!

Pregnancy & Postpartum Body Image

Bariatric surgery is no easy decision to make. Social stigma against people living in larger bodies is rife - its everywhere! If you have experiences discrimination for your body size I am sorry to hear this and I am here to help empower you to fight it! There is also a lot of judgement for wanting to change your body - its your to do what ever you choose to it! Some examples of things we may work on:

While pregnant your body will change. It will expand. This can be challenging if you have pre existing eating disorders, body image issuers or it can come up unexpectedly. Post baby you will have a new body, new anxieties and social pressures all while your hormones are running wild and you are sleep deprived and focusing on your bubs. Here are some of the things we may work on:

  • The decision making process of choosing surgery

  • Evidence based practice for long term change

  • Social stigma

  • Relationships after surgery

  • Subconscious reasons for sabotage

  • Non-weight based goals & psychological tools for success

  • Sense of self in a smaller body

  • Approaching weight goals healthily

  • Body growth in pregnancy

  • Social pressures before and after baby

  • Relationships & intimacy

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • Sense of self as a mum

  • Birth Trauma

Counselling allows us to work through our challenges using psychological theory in conversation. I use an eclectic mix of theory, mostly:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) this works like formulas piecing together thoughts, feelings & behaviours. I often doodle these formulas in session & you may get a laugh at my drawing skills!

Person Centred Counselling (PCC) meaning YOU are the expert in your life, not me!

Transtheoretical Stages of Change (TMM) which we utilise to map out progress.
